For the first time ever, a national Pontiac event is being held in Queensland! We welcome all Pontiac owners and enthusiasts to join us in the town of Warwick, 160 kilometres south west of Brisbane, for the 2011 Pontiac Nationals.

This will be the largest ever assembly of Pontiacs in the state of Queensland. The Nationals features a full programme of events including a street parade, car show, local cruising, sprint racing and two fully-catered night functions. You’ll meet fellow Pontiac enthusiasts from all over Australia, and see many cars you have never seen before. It’s an experience like none other, where Pontiacs take over a town on the Easter long weekend.

Warwick is a town of 12,500 residents located in the southern part of Queensland. It is the meeting point of major highways from Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane. Warwick has become a popular choice for car club events, partly because of the Morgan Park motorsports complex located just outside town. The facilities in town enable events such as this to be accommodated.

The town is at the northern end of the Granite Belt tourist area, centred at Stanthorpe, 60 kilometres to the south. We would encourage entrants to consider extending their Nationals experience into a holiday to take in the many more attractions of the tourist-oriented region.

Due to the proximity to Brisbane International Airport, we would also encourage entrants to publicise the event to their overseas Pontiac friends. Past Nationals events have seen quite a few Americans participate, and this event will be the closest ever to an international airport.

The Warwick Easter Fair commenced in town a couple of years ago, and it is planned for the Pontiac Nationals to be a key component of this in 2011, particularly on Easter Saturday.

Below is an aerial view of Warwick, with some of our event locations marked :

The route from the car marshalling area to the display is marked in red. The procession (in small convoys) does a U-turn at the Fitzroy Street roundabout before turning left into Albert Street for final display placement. At the conclusion of the show, cars will exit via Guy Street for the start of a street parade in the CBD which is marked in light blue. The parade will proceed in anti-clockwise form, taking in two blocks. Each corner is a roundabout, and normal traffic rules apply.

The main highway (in orange, reverse L shape) bypasses the centre of town. The map is oriented with north at the top.

The Red Dot is the Warwick RSL - venue for the night functions.

The Orange Dot is the Australian Rodeo Heritage Centre, confirmed registration venue. This will be open from Noon to 5pm on Good Friday as your initial point of contact. Later arrivals can come directly to the Welcome Function in Leslie Park, or the car show on Saturday.

The Blue Dot is Queens Park and Alice Street - assembly for the procession to the display area on Saturday morning

The Pink Dot is the local Supercheap Auto, which will be open on Saturday, Sunday and Monday mornings.

The Yellow Dot is Soapy's Car and Dog Wash, open 24/7

The Green Dot is the local Repco, which will be open on Saturday, Sunday and Monday mornings.

The Brown Dot is the Warwick Aquatic Centre, which will be open during our show on Saturday.

Sprints Competitor’s Requirements

If you have indicated your participation in the Sprints, or decide to participate at the event, you will need to register on the Saturday. Registration will take place at the feature car show. Please see the Sprints Team at the club tents.

Standard and Modified classes are being run.

An additional fee of $20 is payable, including a day license.

You will need to sign the indemnity form for Warwick Dragway.

You will need long clothing, covered footwear and a helmet. No local helmets suppliers are open over the weekend; best to borrow one if need be.

Scrutineering will take place on the Saturday, the key issues being battery securing, overflow bottle, seat belts, wheels/ tyres as well as a general safety check.

Please empty out your car’s interior and boot of unnecessary items prior to heading out to the track on Sunday morning.

Please arrive at the Dragway by Noon.

Referring to the local map on Page 14/15 of the blue tourist guide, head to the Killarney roundabout on the bottom right of page 15. Take the ‘Old Stanthorpe Road’ from here (not the Killarney road) and continue a few km to the Morgan Park gate (on your right). Entry to the Dragway follows the equestrian centre, but is before the Circuit Racetrack at the end.

Please advise officials of your arrival, and they will direct you to an assembly area. We have organised for The Super Grill to provide lunch for competitors and volunteers. Following this, a driver’s briefing will be held.

Toilets are located on the equestrian centre side of the Raceway.

The sprints will run as three sessions, qualifying, a Chicago Shoot Out style event, and open grudge runs to finish off the session, around 4pm.

Please indicate to the starter whether you want a single pass, on each occasion.
